World # 1 Kim Clijsters has declared a jolt comeback to tennis at age 36, after a hiatus.
The Belgian, who returned to competitive tennis following the arrival of her child, is currently in practice with plans to compete on tour in 2020.
Clijsters won three Grand Slam titles on her return to the game before hanging up her racket and has shown she has been motivated by the success of moms on tour, such as Serena Williams.
“At 36 years old, I really feel like I’m too young to be retired, and with numerous inspirational athletes and mums competing,” Clijsters, who has had two more children, told the WTA Tour.
“I can’t wait to return to the game court and see what’s potential after having three kids.”
Clijsters won her first Grand Slam title following four runner-up finishes in majors in her’ career’ at the US Open in 2005 and after 26 months from the tour started a comeback.
After the arrival of her first child, she won her second Grand Slam title in her recovery occasion, until she defended against the US Open and then won the 2011 Australian Open.
Clijsters, who has won 41 singles titles is eligible for unlimited wildcards and will need to play with three championships or earn 10 ranking points to reestablish a ranking.
