Former world No 1 Kim Clijsters has announced a shock comeback to ski after a hiatus, at age 36.
The Belgian, who initially returned to competitive tennis following her first child’s birth, is currently in training with plans to compete tour in 2020.
Clijsters has revealed she has been motivated by the success of moms such as Serena Williams and won three Grand Slam titles on her return to the game before hanging up her racket in 2012.
“In 36 years old, I really feel like I am too young to be retired, and with so many inspirational athletes and mums competing,” Clijsters, who has had two more children, told the WTA Tour.
“I can not wait to get back to the game court and see what is potential after having three children.”
Clijsters won her first Grand Slam title at the usa Open in 2005 following four runner-up finishes in majors within her’career’ and after 26 months away from the tour launched a successful comeback.
After the arrival of her first child, she won her second Grand Slam title at Flushing Meadows in only her recovery occasion, until she defended the US Open and won the 2011 Australian Open.
Clijsters, who has won 41 singles games will have to play three championships or earn 10 ranking points to reestablish a ranking and is eligible for wildcards.
