World No 1 Kim Clijsters has declared a jolt comeback to tennis at the age of 36, following a seven-year hiatus.
The Belgian, who returned to competitive tennis two years later following her first child’s birth, is to compete on tour in 2020.
Clijsters has shown she’s been motivated by the success of fellow mothers such as Serena Williams, on tour and won three Grand Slam titles on her return to the sport before hanging her up in 2012.
“In 36 years old, I really feel like I’m too young to be retired, as well as so many motivational athletes and mums competing,” Clijsters, who has since had two children, told the WTA Tour.
“I can’t wait to return to the game court and see what is possible after having three children.”
Clijsters won her first Grand Slam title after four runner-up finishes in majors in her’ career’ at the usa Open in 2005 and afterwards 26 months off from the tour started a comeback.
She won her second Grand Slam title in her recovery occasion, until she won the 2011 Australian Open and defended against the US Open in 2010.
Clijsters, who has won 41 singles games in her career, is qualified for wildcards and will need to play with three championships or make 10 ranking points to re-establish a position.
