As England U21s started their Euro 2021 qualifying effort with a 3-2 victory in Turkey eddie Nketiah scored just two goals.
Frustration was suffered by the team of aidy Boothroyd at the summer it looked like that feeling might survive on Friday night and as they were knocked from the European Championship from the group stages, even though having a mostly fresh crop of prospects granted a opportunity.
Six members of their squad with the month’s qualifiers have played with the Young Lions – Nketiah one of them.
The striker put England forward , although Turkey turned the match Nketiah and Reiss Nelson struck to secure the triumph.
England started well and went ahead after just four minutes after a great move between Steven Sessegnon and then Phil Foden down the left side of the penalty area; Foden’s low cross was missed by two Turkish defenders allowing Nketiah to stab the ball home from seven yards out.
Nelson had an even clearer opportunity to score however, the teams went into the level after Dogukan Sinik dashed clear and scored after 25 minutes.
England made a slow start to the second half and they paid the price six minutes after the restart. A corner watched Mert Muldur eliminate his marker and his rush to the post watched him flick the ball.
But, into the game turned . Foden was the architect , darting goalwards before threading a lovely pass inside the penalty area only to Nketiah and that the Arsenal ahead, on loan in Leeds, given a clean finish.
Afterwards, Nelson netted what proved to be the winning goal with a low shot that may have taken a deflection off a defender that was Turkish.
