(CNN) — Major League Baseball allegedly has cautioned its players that over-the-counter sexual supplements may contain banned ingredients which would result in unsuccessful performance enhancing drugs tests.
ESPN obtained a memo delivered by the group officer.
The memo states in part thatthe products are usually contaminated with prohibited and unsafe ingredients, ESPN documented.
CNN asked the Major League Baseball Players Association and Major League Baseball . The league said it will not make memos.
The use of sexual performance improvement tablets located at convenience stores — is widespread among baseball players, ESPN reported citing unnamed sources.
The US Food and Drug Administration has warned the public before about using non-regulated penile enhancement solutions.
Donald D. Ashley, director of the Office of Compliance at the FDAs Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, told CNN last year thatthat the FDA was combating the retail sale of male enhancement drug products that are frequently misrepresented as dietary supplements and that contain hidden and possibly harmful active drug components.
