Mauricio Pochettino states Kieran Trippier tried to get him to clarify he felt that his words were”twisted” while on international duty, when he seemed to criticise the club’s handling of his death.
The England right-back maintained last week that he”didn’t get a response” if he asked the chairman Daniel Levy about his future in the summer, prior to a #22m switch to Atletico Madrid.
Pochettino revealed Trippier sent a text this week to him but he did not receive it leaving Harry Kane to pass on the message on the player’s return from duty.
The Spurs boss said:”I didn’t see [Trippier’s comments], but I learned about it. I am able to explain how I am feeling. We had a conversation at which he explained he went to go to Atletico Madrid – nothing much longer.
“Yesterday (Wednesday) when Harry Kane came back he said to me’did you receive Kieran’s text?’ I said’no’ since my number changed. Maybe because he does not have the number.
“Because he believe his words were twisted – I do not understand nothing more. Kieran translated this message through Harry Kane . He wished to inform me. But I’ve got no problem.
“In soccer decisions happen and players move from one club to the next. What happenedhappened and we need to proceed and he needs to think of Atletico Madrid and be content there.
“There is no point to talk about if something happened or didn’t happen. The truth is 1 reality, but who is right in all this procedure? There is no point in talking. However, I keep very good memories out of him.”
“After the summer that he came to visit me, he asked me for a meeting and said’gaffer, I think I’ve a good chance and also for different reasons I would like to take the offer in Atletico Madrid’.
“He didn’t ask me nothing – only hauled whether the club were planning to accept the deal. Nothing more.
“It was not a dialogue – you need me? Or you do not want me? It was so clear. When I had plenty of different options, together with Serge Aurier, Kyle Walker-Peters, Davinson Sanchez he performed the final. But he played with the closing. My activities speak more than my mouth.”
