Kilkenny Camogie director Ann Downey has stepped aside, in the aftermath of her third successive defeat.
Downey led the Cats in 2016 to All-Ireland glory, but was not able to repeat the trick.
The Noresiders fell to some six-point reduction at the hands of Galway to Cork in 2018 and 2017, after losses at Croke Park on Sunday.
She made the announcement in the dressing room after the defeat on the Tribeswomen.
“Ann Downey has chosen to step down from her managerial role with the Kilkenny senior camogie team,” explained Kilkenny Camogie chairperson Sheila Norris in a statement on Monday morning.
“Having done a yearlong stint from 2008-2009 and reaching the All Ireland in 2009, she again took on the reins at 2016, bringing the team to maintain that his first All Ireland in twenty years in her very first year in charge. Three in a row National League Division 1 titles attaining the All-Ireland final really and in each of these years in 2019 and were procured from 2016, 2017 and 2018. Additionally, we won three Leinster titles in 2017, 2018 and 2019. She also received manager of the year’s accolade .
“Kilkenny Camogie is extremely grateful to Ann for its time and dedication she has contributed to Camogie within the last four decades. Her commitment to her game and to her county was next to none and we need her all the best in her future endeavours.”
