Ian McCall was supposed to combat Dustin Ortiz at UFC Fight Night 73 but sadly had to pull out due to injury. McCall (13-5) caught up with MMAOddsBreaker on Episode 115 of The Parting Shot Podcast this Sunday to discuss his most recent injury. Injury that compelled him out of Dustin Ortiz fight at UFC Fight Night 73″I have a tear in my shoulder, in my labrum and a tear in my bicep. I mean I am literally in the doctors now talking about it. It’s what it is, we train hard and I am fragile apparently. I have to pull out of a good deal of s**t. It stinks, but if you train as hard as I do and you have been doing so as long as I do, its part of the match ” Career Plagued with Injuries”My UFC career was just been plagued with accidents and it’s frustrating. This is my main source of income, I have other things I do but this is my principal source. I’ve got a little girl to feed, I feed my own and it stinks. However, on another note, this really is my enthusiasm; this is what I really like to do. I’m 31 years old, I’m not getting younger I have already been in struggles for 13 years. To watch my body fail me time and time again it is hard. It’s one of those things it makes you wonder a lot. I am such a healthy individual, my loved ones is like incredibly healthy, and you know my kid really needs a really strict diet. I’ve had my hip, groin tear, which is bad. I am sure I’ll have to get a hip replacement eventually. I’ve had three hand surgeries. I got into an automobile crash not long ago and messed up my shoulder. It is always something, but it’s better than having an actual job.” Getting Positive and Optimistic”Most of my life I’ve been a pessimist to become honest. I look at it in various ways, it might be worse, I could be dead. I could have lost complete use of my arm or whatever. There are a whole lot of things I look at. I must maintain a positive attitude because I have to be a good role model for team-mates along with my child. It’s one of these things I am not going to sit around and sulk. That is what it is, I will be al right.” Ideas on Demetrious Johnson vs. John Dodson II in UFC 191″Demetrious is ever evolving and I think that now he’s discovered a bit more power in his punches. His overall game is always changing and getting better. I believe he’ll conquer Dodson, is he likely to finish [him]? I don’t know. I believe this will be one man he will have difficulty completing. He ended Horoguchi with one second left, as much as I want to beat his face in, he’s outstanding. He’s the precise guy you want as winner in regards to performance. I’m going to go with him on this one for certain.” Reduction to John Lineker”Oh man that has been enormous. I got too emotional; I revealed the first round that I could definitely overcome him. People were like’Oh he’s a bantamweight’ I do not care; the man still is not very good I must have overcome him. I believe I showed that you are not going to knock me out even though you’re a huge puncher. My face is going to split open before you knock me out and that’s precisely what happened. With me it is outside matters, they constantly distract me, girl problems or what have you. I just sort of dropped after that round. I am smart enough to know I was going to lose that fight sitting . Anthony Kiedis and Dane White came around and said hi and I am just kind of love, I am screwed. That was a psychological thing, that’s always been my main downfall. I have a brand new mental coach, he’s my mind Sherpa. He is overall made me a better person. As far as goes, he’s a large part of it.” Feeling Overlooked at Flyweight Division”I would not say overlooked, there is other folks to discuss. I blew it with John; I screwed up in that struggle. So perhaps I do not deserve to be talked about it. Let’s say this injury is just 6 months, they will talk about me after that, that’s alright. There are different people that deserve it. Regardless of how good I could be or how great I am, it is not my turn. DJ needs individuals to fight, the branch needs people to move and shake and create a big jolt. I do not mind it, it is cool, anything.” Raising a daughter as a single father”Yeah it is not simple; realistically I do not know anything about girls. I understand how to get one in bed that’s about it. I sit there sometimes and stare at her like’what is going on?’ Don’t cut your hair, don’t put soap in places, like I don’t understand. Realistically I have a lot help, I live with my father. My dad got a divorce, he said proceed in, and I will help you out. My daddy’s retired so he kind of plays mommy on a daily basis. My step mom is still around; my kid’s grandma is around so that I do have a lot of assistance. So I’m not going to say I’m doing this alone, because I’m not. It requires a village to raise a baby and I received a village of folks around me. Even if there are days where I have to take her to the gym, there’s always some one there. She’s pretty damn independent I can take her to the beach; she can run about and swim on her own. She’s going to be alright.” UFC Reebok Uniforms”I’d like to work for a fashion design company; the sole real fighters I hang out with are people I am forced to hang out with or my buddies. I hang out with artists, fashion designers and musicians and materials. They are hideous, like Jose Aldo stated we seem like f***kin Power Rangers. The gear is really comfortable; clearly Reebok creates a great product. I really don’t know who made the design, no matter what generation we’re in 80’s 90’s, that doesn’t match anything, it is just awful. But perhaps I am wrong; perhaps I’m searching for something a bit cooler looking. Its performance based equipment; that is all that matters. It is an evolution of the game. We needed it to excel, sure we are not likely to get paid that much cash but it’s what it is. In case you have a issue then stop, these are the numbers we must deal with. If you are smart and you can market yourself and advertise yourself in ways like I’ve. I have outside sponsors; I have Layrite, that is similar to a hair and mustache merchandise. I have got a lot of clothes and lifestyle companies. I get a good deal of exposure from stuff like that. People today will need to know to step away from the box, make money for themselves and have a smart agent.” Thoughts on Reebok Deal”Yeah that would have been nice, but at the same time they run a business. They operate a multi-billion dollar corporation that’s a premiere sports league. If you find the machine which is the UFC, in the inside it is outstanding. The people are great; the business design is simply amazing. I would never say anything bad about how it’s all operate, it is amazing if you appreciate business. The matter is that they did not need to consult with us because it’s their business. We’re a commodity; as much as I want to say trendy we should be making money like baseball, football and basketball. Because we should we’re really putting our lives on the line. But we’re not and I don’t wish to estimate Urijah Faber, he said’I never got into this for the money’ frankly I get it, I’m a businessman.” Outside sponsors”Financially I am always going to be fine. I’m always going to find methods [to earn money]. I have part of a social networking company, I have a series that I host called Direct Endorsement, also it’s a big charity matter. I’ve got other things that’s going to make me money, therefore I’m going to be ok. I really do feel for guys that don’t have much else or men that are not that smart. But that is their own fault, figure it out it’s not rocket science.” Being on Joe Rogan’s”Fight Companion” series”Yeah I was talking to Joe not too long ago. I have a growing friendship with Joe for quite a while, we always talk about it but it’s a little bit of a drive out of my home with all the traffic. I’ll be up there soon, I have to do some things in the region so that I’ll be on there soon.” You follow Ian on Twitter @Unclecreepymma along with his sponsor DirectEndorcements.com.
