Ian McCall was supposed to combat Dustin Ortiz at UFC Fight Night 73 but unfortunately had to pull out because of injury. McCall (13-5) caught up with MMAOddsBreaker on Episode 115 of The Parting Shot Podcast that Sunday to discuss his latest injury. Injury that forced him out of Dustin Ortiz fight at UFC Fight Night 73″I have a tear in my shoulder, in my labrum and a tear from my own nostrils. I mean I am literally in the physicians now talking about it. It’s exactly what it is, we train hard and I am fragile apparently. I must pull out of a good deal of s**t. It stinks, but when you train as hard as I do and you have been doing so as long as I do, its part of the game” Career Plagued with Injuries”My UFC career was just been plagued with accidents and it is frustrating. This is my main source of income, I have other things I do however, this is my principal source. I’ve got a little girl to feed, that I feed my own and it sucks. However, on a different note, this really is my passion; this is what I really like to do. I am 31 years old, I am not getting younger I have been in fights for 13 years. To watch my body fail me time and time again it’s hard. It is one of these things it makes you question a lot. I’m such a healthy person, my household is like incredibly healthy, and you know my daughter has to have a very strict diet. I have had my hip, groin tear, which is bad. I am sure I’ll have to find a hip replacement eventually. I have had three hand surgeries. I got into an automobile accident not too long ago and messed up my shoulder. It’s always a thing, but it’s far better than having a real job.” Being Positive and Optimistic”A lot of my life I’ve been a pessimist to be honest. I look at it in various ways, it might be worse, I could be dead. I could have lost complete use of my arm or anything. There are a lot of things I consider. I must maintain a positive mindset because I have to be a fantastic role model for team-mates and my child. It is one of these things I’m not going to sit around and sulk. That’s what it is, I will be al right.” Thoughts on Demetrious Johnson vs. John Dodson II in UFC 191″Demetrious is ever evolving and I think that now he has found a bit more power in his punches. His overall game is constantly changing and getting better. I think he will beat Dodson, is he going to finish [him]? I don’t understand. I think this will be one guy he’ll have a hard time finishing. He ended Horoguchi with one second left, and as far as I want to beat his face , he’s outstanding. He’s the precise man you want as winner when it comes to performance. I’m likely to go with him this one for certain.” Reduction to John Lineker”Oh man which was huge. I got too emotional; I showed the first round I could definitely overcome him. People were just like’Oh he is a bantamweight’ I don’t care; the man still isn’t very good I should have beat him. I think I showed that you are not likely to knock me out even though you’re a huge puncher. My face will split open before you knock me out and that’s precisely what occurred. With me it is outside matters, they always distract me, girl issues or what have you. I just kind of dropped after that first round. I’m smart enough to know that I was going to lose that struggle sitting . Anthony Kiedis and Dane White came around and said hello and I am just kind of like, I am screwed. This was a mental thing, that has always been my main downfall. I have a brand new mental coach, he’s my mind Sherpa. He’s overall made me a better individual. So far as goes, he is a big part of it” Feeling Overlooked in Flyweight Division”I wouldn’t say overlooked, there’s other people to talk about. I blew it with John; I screwed up in that fight. So maybe I do not deserve to be talked about it. Let us say this injury is just 6 months, they will talk about me then, that is fine. There are different people that deserve it. It does matter how good I can be or how good I am, it’s not my turn. DJ needs people to struggle, the branch needs people to shake and move and create a big jolt. I don’t mind it, it is cool, anything.” Raising a daughter as a single father”Yeah it is not simple; realistically I do not know anything about women. I understand how to get one in bed that’s about it. I sit there sometimes and stare at her like’what’s happening?’ Do not cut your own hair, do not put soap in places, like I don’t know. Realistically I have a lot help, I live together with my dad. My father got a divorce, he explained move in, and I will assist you. My dad’s retired so he sort of plays mother on a daily basis. My step mom is still around; my kid’s grandma is about so I do have a great deal of help. So I am not going to say I’m doing so alone, because I am not. It requires a village to raise a baby and I got a village of people around me. Even if there are times where I must take her into the gym, there is always some one there. She’s pretty damn independent I can take her to the beach; she can run about and swim on her own. She’s going to be fine.” UFC Reebok Uniforms”I’d like to work for a fashion design company; the only real fighters I hang out with are either people I’m forced to hang out with or my friends. I hang out with artists, fashion designers and musicians and materials. They are hideous, such as Jose Aldo stated we look like f***kin Power Rangers. The gear is actually comfortable; obviously Reebok creates a great item. I don’t know who made the layout, no matter what generation we’re in 80’s 90’s, that does not match anything, it is just awful. But perhaps I am wrong; maybe I’m searching for something a little cooler looking. Its functionality based gear; that is all that matters. It is an evolution of the sport. We needed it to shine, sure we are not likely to have paid that much money but it’s what it is. If you’ve got a issue then quit, these are the amounts we have to manage. Now if you’re smart and you can market yourself and advertise yourself in ways like I have. I have outside sponsors; I have Layrite, that is similar to a hair and mustache merchandise. I’ve got a great deal of clothing and lifestyle businesses. I receive a lot of exposure from materials like this. People today will need to learn to step away from the box, make money for themselves and have a smart agent.” Ideas on Reebok Deal”Yeah that would have been nice, but at the same time they operate a small business. They run a multi-billion dollar corporation that is a premiere sports league. If you find the machine that is your UFC, in the inside it is outstanding. The people are great; the company layout is simply remarkable. I would never say anything bad about the way that it’s all run, it is beautiful if you appreciate business. The thing is they didn’t have to consult with us since it is their business. We’re a commodity; as much as I want to say cool we should be making money such as baseball, soccer and basketball. Because we should we are really putting our lives at stake. But we’re not and I do not wish to estimate Urijah Faber, he said’I got into this for the cash’ honestly I catch it, I’m a businessman.” Outside patrons”Financially I am going to be fine. I’m going to find methods [to earn money]. I have part of a social media company, I have a show I host called Direct Endorsement, and it is a significant charity thing. I have other things that’s likely to make me more money, therefore I will be ok. I really do feel for guys that don’t have much else or guys that are not that smart. But that is their own fault, figure out it it’s not rocket science” Being on Joe Rogan’s”Fight Companion” series”Yeah I was speaking to Joe not too long ago. I have a developing friendship with Joe for quite a while, we always talk about it but it’s a tiny bit of a drive from my house with all the visitors. I’ll be up there soon, I have to do some things in the region so I’ll be on there soon.” You follow Ian on Twitter @Unclecreepymma and his sponsor DirectEndorcements.com.
