Stradivarius secured his 10th successive victory with a dominant display in the Magners Rose Doncaster Cup.
The remaining division has been dominated by john Gosden’s five-year-old over the last few seasons – along including wins in the Yorkshire Cup, Gold Cup, Goodwood Cup and Lonsdale Cup watching him scoop the Weatherbys Hamilton Stayers’ Million in equally 2019 and 2018.
In the immediate aftermath of his most recent triumph at York, connections indicated his next port of call could be following month Long Distance Cup at Ascot – he also won last season – but that a late change of heart saw Gosden bring his bill to Town Moor.
With foe Dee Ex Bee a late withdrawal, Stradivarius has been the favorite in spouse Frankie Dettori’s control and his legion of fans had few worries for the length of this two-and-a-quarter-mile competition.
After being abandoned in front, Andrew Balding’s Cleonte was sent on by Oisin Murphy heading outside to the circuit in an attempt to inject some pace in the race, and he was still going great guns rounding the turn for home.
But after popped the question the leader was immediately siphoned in by Stradivarius and became apparent to get a comfy one-and-three-quarter-length success.
Cleonte boxed to meet with the runner-up spot, together using all the Willie Mullins-trained Max Dynamite – runner-up to stablemate Thomas Hobson in the past season’s renewal – back in third.
Gosden said:”Frankie was appropriate to move forward, then Oisin determined he wanted to make a rush of it.
“He’s a beautiful horse. I had no intention of arriving , but he was so new, rearing up and shouting all of the time, so I thought we’d come back and win the Doncaster Cup – it had not been the program, however Mr (Bjorn) Nielsen was very good about that.
“He’s a gorgeous horse to train, however he had been getting so lively at home – this was a five-day entrance so I had to put him in. Should you wait around for Champions Day and it is thick, he won’t be running.”
He proceeded:”I think Mr Nielsen’s huge plan, if the horse is happy and well, is to go to Ascot next year. He would really like to win three Gold Cups. We’ll attempt to do that if we can and we’ll see what’s from this Leger as potential challengers.
“He’s had a much easier time this year compared to last. The race in the Gold Cup (a year ago ) was mighty hard and he was a weary horse from the Lonsdale. He’s a very new horse.
“I believe the next year’s it’s Ascot Gold Cup and likely Goodwood Cup, and then we may be concerned about other alternatives.
“I believe he’d like to get a Sagaro, Yorkshire Cup – go that route again when the horse is in wonderful sequence, then regroup, that could be a little fun”
Dettori – again in flying dismount form – said”That is the simplest he is won – he’s so good to ride,” he relaxeshe quickens. Brilliant. It was a race, but we hoped it to be like that.
“I tried to create the running, but as we got to the bend he had been looking at all. Oisin ran eager and I received a tow. We went slow, we sprinted the previous three and a half (furlongs).
“He’s got one more gear than the remainder, so that I utilized Oisin as a reference point – I gave him three or four spans begin because I knew after I passed him he believes he’s done enough.
“I utilized Oisin as tow into the furlong marker and ‘come on let us place the race ‘, and he won very easily.”
Gosden had a sentence on his other celebrity, the Enable, who’s being ready for an attempt on a record-breaking third success in the Prix de Triomphe before signing off.
He said:”She is in terrific form. I could not be more pleased with her. She is in very good nick and we are going to build her around the Arc now.”
