The Chicago Cubs Seem to get Nearer into the St. Louis Cardinals with a win and some help from the Pirates at Pittsburgh.
The Pirates did their part last night with a 9-4 win over the NL Central Cardinals. The Cubs didn’t draw due to some reduction to the Brewers. Then they even took a 1-0 lead at the 3rd and things turned to mush in a rush.
The Brewers cruised to a 7-1 win Friday night and responded with 4 runs in the bottom half of the inning. With the loss, the Diamondbacks were able to inch closer at the search. The Cubs hold a 2.5-game advantage on the Diamondbacks going into today. Only the simple fact that we are speaking about the Diamondbacks is still a win for them.
So far as the Brewers are concerned, they have an outside shot at going to the postseason. Their season is not dead yet, therefore there is some thing to play for this season, at least in the moment. The Brewers are tied with Phillies and the Mets who are the final wildcard all four games back. The disappointing season that category has to visit the Phillies. They were the team who spent $330-million dollars.
Even the Cubs missing out on the postseason would be a disappointing season. They have too much talent on board not to go to the Wild Card Game. It’ll be a long offseason for the Cubs if they throw away this, however they control their own fate with a 2.5-game lead.

Miller Park was a haunted house for himas he has gotten hammered for a 5.64 ERA instead of a 2.92 ERA on the street. The balls have hurt him, yielding 6 of them at 30.1 innings of work.
