Charlton vs Birm’ham
Sky Bet Ch’boat
3:00pm Saturday 14th September

The Valley
(Att: 18752)

Charlton missed the opportunity to go top of their Sky Bet Championship as they were defeated 1-0 from Birmingham at The Valley.
A goal by debutant Jude Bellingham that is full in the next half was enough to derail the south London side, who dropped the very first time this year.
Charlton were weakened using talisman Lyle Taylor missing while playing Monserrat after picking up a knock in the week, before kick-off.
Though neither side created much in the way of chances in the opening period, the very first half-chance dropped to the hosts once Chris Solly fired over from just inside the box.
A diving header on the mark by Tomer Hemed went wide of the article, although distance was found by Jonathan Leko but fired his effort off-target.
Birmingham began to press, and over the crossbar Lukas Jutkiewicz compelled goalkeeper Dillon Phillips after 39 minutes.
The people took the lead seven minutes after the restart when Maxime Colin squared to Kerim Mrabti, who slipped the ball to fire home into the centre of the area for Bellingham.
Charlton made a change just before the hour mark when Jonny Williams replaced Erhun Oztumer.
The hosts began to press, but Birmingham still looked dangerous on the break. Colin found Jutkiewicz, who again watched Phillips nudge his shot and engineered a solo run after 65 minutes.
Charlton made a shift that was second after 71 minutes, together with Sam Field making means for Chuks Aneke.
Lee Camp created when he did well to block a drive.
If he turned off a minimal drive the Birmingham keeper was called into action.
The home team made their third and last change of the afternoon after 78 minutes when Leko was substituted by Beram Kayal.
After he was fed by Aneke with just two minutes of time remaining, Hemed place the ball over the bar from five yards out.
Referee Matthew Donohue permitted six minutes of injury time caused controversy after he dismissed Charlton director Lee Bowyer in the touchline.
Despite Phillips going up front in the dying seconds of the game, the strike by Bellingham was sufficient for Birmingham to claim the win.
