World No 1 Brooks Koepka has closed down any hint of a rivalry between him and Rory McIlroy after reminding the Northern Irishman he has not won a major.
McIlroy was a significant champion when Koepka became a complete PGA Tour member in 2014, but has failed to add that Koepka has won both PGA Championship and the US Open .
Three wins were both enrolled by the pair throughout their season, the American doesnt find any sort of direct contest between them both, although where McIlroy pipped Koepka into PGA Tour player of the year after winning the FedExCup for the next time.
Ahead of his title defence in the CJ Cup, Koepka told AFP:Ive been out for, what, five years. Because I have been around the PGA Tour, rory hasnt won a major. So I simply dont see it as a competition.
I am not looking at anyone behind me. Im No 1 in the entire world. Ive got street Im not searching in the mirror. You know if the fans do [call it a competition ]thats on them and it may be entertaining.
Look I adore Rory hes a wonderful player and hes fun to observe, but it is just difficult to believe there is a competition in golf. I just dont see it
Koepka got the better of McIlroy to win against the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational in July, when the two were in the final pairing, until McIlroy gained revenge by winning the Tour Championship and its $15m jackpot.
The tournament where both players are scheduled to look is that the WGC-HSBC Champions at Shanghai in October.
