Hull KR captain Joel Tomkins has abandoned just 2 years to the team.
The Super League club made the surprise statement five days after procuring their status, saying they allowed a release on compassionate grounds to the former Wigan and England forward.
Tomkins joined Rovers in June 2018 after his exit from Wigan and made 35 appearances.
Hull KR coach Tony Smith said:”Joel has requested the club to get a release on compassionate grounds and we have accepted.
“Joel and I’ve got a excellent relationship and we’ve thoroughly enjoyed working with one another.
“Everybody in the club would like to wish him all the best of fortune for your future and thank him for his time, efforts and leadership whilst at Rovers.”
After initially joining Rovers Tomkins signed an expansion that was expected to run before the end of 2021 and then he was selected as captain for 2019, carrying over from Shaun Lunt.
Tomkins, whose second move isn’t yet known, explained:”I want to thank each of the players, fans and staff of Hull KR to their support during my time at the club.
“I would like to especially thank (proprietor ) Neil Hudgell and Tony Smith for understanding my position and accepting my request to be published.
“I believe that now is the perfect time for me to proceed and look at the following phase of my career.
“I’ve really enjoyed working with Tony and genuinely believe he is the perfect person to take this club to the next level. I wish the team the very best of luck for the future”
Tomkins, who also missed the ast game of the club through suspension, becomes the seventh player to depart the club since Smith prepares to rebuild the team after their shave with relegation.
Danny McGuire has retired and will occupy an role per month.
Ryan Shaw, who has changed codes has since followed them.
Even though the club are believed to have lined up a host of fresh faces Jez Litten and dean Hadley would be the supported signings for next season.
