Kristian Woolf was announced as St Helens’ new head coach for next year.
Woolf, that finished the NRL year will take a yearlong contract up as Saints’ head coach on November 1.
He succeeds St Helens chairman Eamonn McManus and Gold Coast Titans-bound Justin Holbrook considers the club can be taken by Woolf to greater heights.
“We believe that Kristian is ideally qualified and placed to build on the current success of the group and the team,” McManus said.
“He has the experience and expertise to bring the best out of our current squad and to enhance it further.
“We are extremely confident that the Saints will critically compete for honours beneath his sanity and that we will continue to play with attractive and exciting rugby league.”
The 44-year-old, that has signed a two-year manage the option for a year, comes to Super League with a wealth of coaching experience in both Australia and globally with Tonga.
Woolf enjoyed spells with North Queensland Cowboys’ youth clubs and Intrust Super Cup facet Townsville Blackhawks, along with serving as an assistant at both Brisbane Broncos and Knights.
Woolf oversaw their rise from 14th to fourth in the world rankings and their run, that comprised a shock victory against New Zealand.
“I’m excited and blessed to be joining St Helens as head coach,” Woolf said.
“It is something I have always wished to do and it is a terrific opportunity for me personally. St Helens is still a team with an amazing history and I am convinced we could achieve great things together.”
