Kristian Woolf was declared as St Helens’ new head coach for next season.
Woolf, that completed the NRL year will take a two-year contract up as Saints’ head coach on November 1.
He succeeds St Helens chairman Eamonn McManus and Gold Coast Titans-bound Justin Holbrook believes the club can be taken by Woolf to greater heights.
“We believe that Kristian is qualified and placed to build upon the present success of the team and the club,” McManus said.
“He has got the experience and expertise to deliver the best out of our current squad and also to enhance it further.
“We are very confident that the Saints will critically compete for honours beneath his sanity and that we’ll continue to play with appealing and exciting soccer league”
The 44-year-old, that has signed a two-year manage the option for a further year, comes to Super League with a wealth of training experience in both Australia and internationally with Tonga.
Woolf enjoyed spells with North Queensland Cowboys’ youth groups and Intrust Super Cup side Townsville Blackhawks, along with serving as the assistant at both the Knights and Brisbane Broncos.
As Tonga head coach, Woolf oversaw their increase from 14th.
“I’m excited and blessed to be joining St Helens as head coach,” Woolf said.
“It is something I have always wished to perform and it’s a great opportunity for me personally. St Helens is still a heart with an wonderful history and I’m convinced we can achieve terrific things together.”
