Ian McCall was slated to fight Dustin Ortiz at UFC Fight Night 73 but unfortunately had to pull out because of injury. McCall (13-5) caught up with MMAOddsBreaker on Episode 115 of The Parting Shot Podcast that Sunday to talk about his most recent injury. Injury that forced him out of Dustin Ortiz fight at UFC Fight Night 73″I have a tear in my shoulder, in my labrum and a tear from my own nostrils. I mean I’m literally at the doctors now speaking about it. It is what it is, we train hard and I am brittle apparently. I have to pull out of a lot of s**t. It stinks, but if you train as hard as I do and you’ve been doing so as long as I do, its part of the match .” Career Plagued with Injuries”My UFC profession was only been plagued with accidents and it’s frustrating. This is my chief source of income, I still have other things I do but that is my principal source. I have a little girl to feed, I feed on my own and it stinks. However, on another note, this really is my enthusiasm; this is what I really like to do. I’m 31 years old, I’m not getting younger I’ve already been in struggles for 13 years. To watch my body fail me time and time again it is hard. It is one of those things it makes you question a good deal. I am such a healthy individual, my loved ones is like amazingly healthy, and you know my daughter has to have a really strict diet. I have had my hip, groin tear, that is awful. I’m sure I will need to get a hip replacement . I’ve had three hand surgeries. I got into a car crash not long ago and messed up my shoulder. It’s always a thing, but it’s far better than having a real job.” Getting Positive and Optimistic”Most of my life I have been a pessimist to become honest. I look at it in different ways, it could be worse, I might be dead. I might have lost complete use of my arm or anything. There are a lot of things I consider. I have to keep a positive attitude because I must be a fantastic role model for team-mates and my child. It’s one of those things I am not going to sit around and sulk. That’s what it is, I will be al right.” Ideas on Demetrious Johnson vs. John Dodson II at UFC 191″Demetrious is ever evolving and I believe that now he has found a little more power in his punches. His overall game is constantly changing and becoming better. I think he’ll conquer Dodson, is he going to complete [him]? I really don’t know. I think this will be one man he’ll have a hard time finishing. He ended Horoguchi with one second left, and as far as I want to beat his face in, he’s outstanding. He is the exact man you want as winner in regards to performance. I’m going to go with him this one for certain.” Reduction to John Lineker”Oh man that has been huge. I got too emotional; I showed the first round I could definitely beat him. People were just like’Oh he is a bantamweight’ I don’t care; the guy still is not very good I must have overcome him. I believe I showed that you’re not likely to knock me out even though you are a huge puncher. My face is going to split open until you knock me out and that’s precisely what occurred. With me it’s outside things, they constantly distract me, woman problems or what have you. I just sort of dropped after that round. I’m smart enough to know that I was going to drop that fight sitting backstage. Anthony Kiedis and Dane White came around and said hello and I’m just kind of like, I am screwed. That was a psychological thing, that has always been my main downfall. I have a brand new mental coach, he’s my thoughts Sherpa. He’s overall made me a better individual. As far as goes, he’s a big part of it.” Feeling Overlooked in Flyweight Division”I wouldn’t say overlooked, there’s other people to talk about. I blew it with John; I screwed up in this fight. So perhaps I do not deserve to be talked about it. Let’s state this harm is 6 months, they will talk about me after that, that is alright. You can find other people who deserve it. It does matter how good I can be or how good I am, it is not my turn. DJ needs individuals to fight, the branch needs people to shake and move and create a big jolt. I do not mind it, it’s cool, anything.” Raising a daughter as a single dad”Yeah it is not easy; realistically I do not know anything about girls. I know how to get one in mattress that’s about it. I sit there sometimes and stare at her like’what is going on?’ Do not cut your own hair, don’t put soap in areas, like I do not understand. Realistically I have a lot help, I live with my dad. My dad got a divorce, he explained proceed in, and I will help you out. My dad’s retired so he kind of plays mother on a daily basis. My step mother is still about; my kid’s grandma is around so I do have a great deal of assistance. So I’m not going to say I’m doing so alone, because I am not. It takes a village to raise a kid and I received a village of people around me. Even if there are days where I have to take her to the gym, there is always some one there. She is pretty damn independent I can take her to the beach; she can run about and swim on her own. She’s going to be fine.” UFC Reebok Uniforms”I’d like to work for a fashion design company; the only real fighters I hang out with are people I’m forced to hang out my friends. I hang out with artists, fashion designers, artists and musicians and stuff. They are hideous, like Jose Aldo stated we look like f***kin Power Rangers. The gear is really comfy; clearly Reebok makes a fantastic item. I really don’t know who left the layout, regardless of what generation we’re in 80’s 90’s, that does not match anything, it’s just ugly. But maybe I am wrong; maybe I am searching for something a bit cooler looking. Its functionality based gear; that’s all that matters. It is an evolution of the sport. We needed it to excel, sure we are not going to get paid that much money but it is what it is. If you have a issue then quit, these are the amounts we must deal with. If you’re smart and you are able to market yourself and advertise yourself in ways like I have. I have outside sponsors; I have Layrite, which is like a hair and mustache product. I’ve got a lot of clothes and lifestyle businesses. I get a lot of exposure from materials like that. People today will need to learn to step outside the boxmake money for themselves and also have a smart agent.” Thoughts on Reebok Deal”Yeah that would have been fine, but at exactly the exact same time they operate a small business. They run a multi-billion dollar corporation that is a premiere sports league. If you find the machine which is the UFC, in the inside it’s outstanding. The people are great; the company layout is simply remarkable. I wouldn’t ever say anything bad about the way that it’s all run, it is amazing if you appreciate business. The thing is that they did not need to consult with us since it’s their organization. We are a commodity; as much as I want to say cool we ought to be making money such as baseball, soccer and basketball. Because we should we are actually putting our lives on the line. But we’re not and I don’t wish to quote Urijah Faber, he stated’I never got into this for the money’ frankly I get it, I’m a businessman.” Outside sponsors”Financially I’m going to be ok. I’m going to find methods [to make money]. I have part of a social media company, I have a show that I host called Direct Endorsement, and it’s a big charity matter. I have other stuff that’s likely to make me money, therefore I will be ok. I do feel for men that don’t have much else or guys that are not that smart. But that is their own fault, figure it out it’s not rocket science” Being on Joe Rogan’s”Fight Companion” show”Yeah I was talking to Joe not too long ago. I’ve a growing friendship with Joe for quite a while, we always talk about it but it is a tiny bit of a drive from my home with all the traffic. I’ll be up there shortly, I have to do some stuff in the area so that I’ll be on there soon.” You follow Ian on Twitter @Unclecreepymma along with his sponsor DirectEndorcements.com.
