Ian McCall was supposed to fight Dustin Ortiz at UFC Fight Night 73 but unfortunately had to pull out due to injury. McCall (13-5) caught up with MMAOddsBreaker on Episode 115 of The Parting Shot Podcast that Sunday to discuss his latest injury. Injury that forced him from Dustin Ortiz fight at UFC Fight Night 73″I have a tear in my shoulder, in my labrum and a tear in my bicep. I mean I’m literally at the doctors now speaking about it. It is what it is, we train hard and I am fragile apparently. I must pull from a good deal of s**t. It sucks, but when you train as hard as I do and you’ve been doing so as long as I do, its part of the game.” Career Plagued with Injuries”My UFC profession was just been plagued with accidents and it is frustrating. This is my main source of income, I have other things I do but that is my principal source. I’ve got a little girl to feed, I feed my own and it sucks. However, on another note, this is my enthusiasm; this is what I love to perform. I am 31 years old, I am not getting younger I’ve been in fights for 13 decades. To see my body neglect me time and time again it’s hard. It is one of those things it makes you wonder a good deal. I’m such a healthy person, my loved ones is like amazingly healthy, and you know my daughter has to have a really strict diet. I’ve had my hip, groin tear, which can be awful. I’m sure I will need to get a hip replacement . I have had three hand surgeries. I got into a car accident not long ago and messed up my shoulder. It’s always a thing, but it is better than having an actual job.” Being Positive and Optimistic”A lot of my life I’ve been a pessimist to become honest. I look at it in different ways, it might be worse, I could be dead. I might have lost complete use of my arm or anything. There are a whole lot of things I look at. I have to keep a positive mindset because I must be a good role model for team-mates and my child. It’s one of these things I’m not going to sit around and sulk. That is what it is, I will be al right.” Ideas on Demetrious Johnson vs. John Dodson II at UFC 191″Demetrious is ever evolving and I think that now he has discovered a bit more power in his punches. His entire game is always changing and becoming better. I believe he will beat Dodson, is he likely to finish [him]? I really don’t know. I think this is one man he’ll have a hard time completing. He finished Horoguchi with one second left, as far as I wish to beat his face in, he is outstanding. He’s the exact guy you want as winner when it comes to performance. I’m going to go with him this one for certain.” Reduction to John Lineker”Oh man that was huge. I got overly emotional; I showed the first round that I could definitely overcome him. People were just like’Oh he is a bantamweight’ I do not care; the man still is not very good I must have beat him. I think I showed that you are not going to knock me out even though you’re a huge puncher. My face will split open before you knock me out and that’s exactly what occurred. With me it’s outside things, they always distract me, girl issues or what have you. I just sort of fell apart after that round. I am smart enough to understand that I was going to drop that fight sitting backstage. Anthony Kiedis and Dane White came about and said hi and I’m just kind of like, I’m screwed. That was a psychological thing, that’s always been my biggest downfall. I have a new mental coach, he’s my thoughts Sherpa. He’s overall made me a better person. So far as my optimism goes, he is a big part of it.” Feeling Overlooked at Flyweight Division”I wouldn’t say overlooked, there’s other people to talk about. I blew it with John; I screwed up in that struggle. So maybe I don’t deserve to be talked about it. Let’s state this harm is 6 months, they will talk about me after that, that is alright. There are other people that deserve it. Regardless of how good I could be or how good I am, it’s not my turn. DJ needs individuals to struggle, the division needs people to move and shake and create a big stink. I don’t mind it, it’s cool, anything.” Raising a daughter as a single father”Yeah it is not simple; realistically I don’t know anything about women. I understand how to get one in bed that’s about it. I sit there sometimes and stare at her like’what is happening?’ Don’t cut your hair, don’t put soap in areas, like I do not understand. Realistically I have a lot aid, I live with my father. My dad got a divorce, he explained move in, and I will help you out. My daddy’s retired so he sort of plays mother on a daily basis. My step mom is still about; my daughter’s grandma is about so that I do have a lot of help. So I am not going to say I am doing so alone, because I am not. It takes a village to raise a kid and I got a village of people around me. Even if there are days where I must take her to the gym, there’s always some one there. She’s pretty damn independent I will take her to the shore; she can run about and swim on her own. She is going to be alright.” UFC Reebok Uniforms”I’d like to work for a fashion design company; the only real fighters I hang out with are people I am forced to hang out my friends. I hang out with artists, fashion designers and musicians and stuff. They’re hideous, like Jose Aldo stated we look like f***kin Power Rangers. The gear is actually comfortable; obviously Reebok makes a fantastic product. I really don’t know who made the design, no matter what generation we are in 80’s 90’s, that doesn’t fit anything, it’s just ugly. But maybe I am wrong; maybe I am searching for something a bit cooler looking. Its functionality based equipment; that’s all that matters. It’s an evolution of the sport. We needed it to shine, sure we’re not likely to have paid that much money but it’s what it is. If you have a problem then stop, these are the numbers we have to manage. Now if you’re smart and you can market yourself and advertise yourself in manners like I’ve. I have external sponsors; I’ve Layrite, which is similar to a hair and mustache product. I’ve got a great deal of clothing and lifestyle companies. I receive a good deal of exposure from stuff like that. People today will need to know to step outside the boxmake money for themselves and also have a smart agent.” Ideas on Reebok Deal”Yeah that would have been nice, but at exactly the exact same time they operate a business. They run a multi-billion dollar company that’s a premiere sports league. If you see the machine that is the UFC, from the inside it is incredible. The people are excellent; the company layout is simply remarkable. I wouldn’t ever say anything bad about how it’s all run, it is beautiful if you appreciate business. The matter is they did not need to consult with us because it is their business. We’re a commodity; as much as I wish to say cool we ought to be making money such as baseball, football and basketball. Since we should we’re actually putting our lives on the line. But we are not and I don’t want to estimate Urijah Faber, he said’I never got into this for the cash’ frankly I get it, I’m a businessman.” Outside patrons”Financially I am going to be fine. I am going to find ways [to earn money]. I own a portion of a social networking company, I have a show I host called Direct Endorsement, also it is a big charity matter. I have other stuff that’s likely to make me more money, so I will be fine. I do feel for men that don’t have much else or men that are not that smart. But that is their own fault, figure it out it’s not rocket science.” Being on Joe Rogan’s”Fight Companion” show”Yeah I was speaking to Joe not too long ago. I have a developing friendship with Joe for quite a while, we constantly talk about it but it is a tiny bit of a drive out of my house with all the traffic. I’ll be up there shortly, I must do some things in the region so I’ll be on there soon.” You follow Ian on Twitter @Unclecreepymma and his sponsor DirectEndorcements.com.
